creating space for parents to have time to themselves, knowing that they are gifting their children rather than neglecting them.

With the emphasis on “One United Tribe”, your young ones can come and partake in music-making, dancing, workplayshops and many varied fun activities.

Holiday fun for Utribe kids:

With September school holidays just around the corner hinterland parents will be already bracing themselves for the classic kids catch-cry of “I’m bored”, or “There’s nothing to do!”

But stress no longer - Utribe Festival hits town on the weekend of the 25th -27th September with a whole swag of entertainment and activities on offer for littlies under twelve years of age running daily from 12 -5pm on Friday and from 10am – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday all included in the admission prices. Kids under twelve are all free to get into Utribe if accompanied by a paying adult.

A quote often heard is that it takes a village to raise a child and evidence of that ideal is so often seen around the hinterland where kids seem so much more confident and self-assured than their city counterparts. We have some wonderful young up and coming artists and musicians in our ranks that often attribute their success to the benefits of being brought up in such a wonderful environment as the hinterland. Part of the Utribe vision is to open up and create more opportunities for creative self-expression to even more kids.

Utribe kids festival co-ordinator Tina Orr says: “Our aim is uniting people, so we are hoping that families will come and take advantage of the beautiful on-site camping facilities and stay for the full three days of the festival. We have had such an amazing response from our local community towards helping us create this kid-friendly festival and as such have been able to provide all performances, workshops and activities free of any additional charge. There is a nominal cost for only a couple of the events. We know that this is virtually unheard of at festivals, but stays with the Utribe crew united intentions of healing through music, awareness and activities for even the youngest tribe members. Utribe festival organisers are really keen to emphasise that Utribe is so much more than just another music festival. Admittedly, the musical line-up is very impressive with something sure to appeal to Mums and Dads, older siblings and even grandparents too, but the focus on kids activities and entertainment means that the whole family can have a weekend they will never forget. At Utribe festival, kids will always know that they too are highly valued members of the unified tribe.

“Kids can look forward to all day activities such as the jumping castle, Utribe Statements featuring display paintings of Utribe kids art, the Utribe Sculpture Forest where kids can come and decorate our fully bio degradable forest from the trunks up, Sand Wizard, The Pirate Ship Sand Pit and Stilt Walking. Our sign on activities which are run throughout the days include Hula Hooping, Utribe headband making, play dough playing, necklace threading, friendship bracelet weaving, and for the older crew, some amazing sculptures to be created, although this runs for 2 days, so you have to camp to take advantage of this activity.” Tina Orr says.

Still wondering what to do on the holidays? If all that activity isn’t enough to wear the littlies out there will also be a variety of performances and workshops especially designed to cater to the Utribe kids including Brett Campbell Children's Musician and Sparkle Land for the littlies, and Mayas' Egyptian Belly Dancers, Sir Andum Magician, Terry The Great, circus & street performer, Funky Town - a hip hop/funk dance workshop, as well as an Aboriginal Dance Troupe for all ages, and Scales, Jaws & Claws will be providing some fabulous petting creatures on the Sunday.

With an emphasis on learning, sharing and uniting, Tina says that Utribe festival is all about family and fun and she hopes that the youngest members of the Utribe festival will come away with new skills and the opportunity to forge lifelong bonds with other Utribe kids.

Inaugural Utribe Festival Artists appearing include

Brett Campbell Children's Musician
Brett Campbell

Brett's live show caters mainly to the toddler to 8 year olds although many an older "kid" has been known to enjoy the songs.

Brett's performance features his acoustic guitar, harmonica, kazoo, ukelele and banjo in a 30-40 minute romp through his songbook. Playing live with no recorded backing gives his set an intimate and "real" feel and he is always ready to answer questions from curious children.

The concert style performance has children playing guessing games, remembering song lyrics, dancing and learning about the instruments Brett plays. He regularly performs to audiences ranging from small daycares to festival size.

Inaugural Utribe Festival Childrens WorkPlayshops include:

a Marimba Band
Marimba Band

The marimba is a musical instrument in the percussion family. Keys or bars (usually made of wood) are struck to produce musical tones. The keys are arranged like a piano.

Its robustness and simplicity make it a beuatifully responsive instrument for children who delight in creating melodious sounds and tones without the skill development demanded by other instruments.

Egyptian Belly Dancing
Egyptian Belly Dancing

There are many forms of belly dance today and, as with any dance of folkloric origin, the roots of belly dance are uncertain.

One thing remains undisputed: belly dancing is a great way for childrens to “get into their bodies” and delight in the joy of movement to music - and the costumes are gorgeous too!

Drumming
Drumming

Probably the most widespread music-making activity to “sooth the savage breast” (who hasn't drummed their fingers to dissipate nervous energy?)

Childrens drumming workshops can incorporate a diverse range of activities and inactivities.

You can be sure of one thing: your children will be immersed in the drumming experience and will thrive at “their festival event”.
